A Journal of Scholarship on
the Literature and Culture of Europe, 1890-1939
The International Review of Modernism is a peer-reviewed electronic journal that publishes critical and historical essays, book reviews, and extended review-essays on new scholarly and critical books on modernist literature and culture situated in historical and national contexts. It is hoped in this way we may have modernism "thickly described" with its comprehensive interrelationships as the literature crosses disciplinary boundaries and national borders or is influenced by art, film, philosophy, and politics. The coverage will be broad both temporally (from decadence and fin-de-siecle to the start of the Second World War) and spatially (from Great Britain to Russia). We are interested in all of the contending movements in literature and the other arts (post-impressionism, decadence, fauvism, cubism, imagism, vorticism, futurism, dadaism, surrealism, and expressionism, to name just a few). We would like all that we publish to be attuned to the shifts, differences, and changes that take place during this complex and only partially understood period, filled with experiment and innovation, and racked by political upheaval, urbanization, technological change, world wars, and genocide.
This journal began as a print journal in 1997; after three years, it went into hiatus, and it became clear that we should move to an electronic version, freely available on the internet. We are in the process now of expanding our editorial board, developing contributing editors and peer-reviewers, and redesigning the journal to be relaunched as an e-journal during 2002. Please be patient with this web-site until the relaunch. Thank you.[Editor: Prof. Leonard Orr, Dept. of English, Washington State University, 2710 University Dr., Richland WA 99336-1671 USA; this e-journal is supported by Washington State University, Tri-Cities, through the Campus Dean and the Director of Campus Infrastructure.]
